EXCLUSIVE ChokeHimOut Interview: Roy "Big Country" Nelson
Interviews

ChokeHimOut.com recently had the chance to speak with Roy "Big Country" Nelson about his upcoming fight May 16th against Brad Imes in the IFL. Roy talked with us about Brad replacing Brandon Lee Hinkle and how he expects the fight to go down...

C.H.O: Tell me about your martial arts background and why you entered into professional fighting.

RN: I have been doing martial arts for about 28 years. I got into mma because I have been training guys at the top of the food chain for awile, and most of the guys I trained didn't pay much, so I decided to start fighting and just take it from them.

C.H.O: Tell me what an average day of your training looks like.

RN: The average day is me going to MickeyD's or burger king for breakfast, then going to gym to do some cardio. Then after that I hit the weights. After that lunch, then spar time, then dinner and late night snack.

C.H.O: It was recently announced you are not fighting Brandon Lee Hinkle due to him having suffered an injury. How do you feel about taking a fight with Brad Imes on short notice?

RN: Brad Imes is big guy who has gone the distance with Rashad Evans and Heath Herring, the UFC's now golden boys, so the task in front of me is tough but I plan to give it my all put on a show.

C.H.O: Brad Imes has won most of his fights by submission. Does this concern you at all?

RN: As many people know I am a submission guy first, then slow striker, so the ground game is always fun and exciting to me when you have someone trying to sub you.

C.H.O: Brad has pulled off two gogoplata's and a couple of triangle's. For a guy his size this is impressive. How are you training for this fight?

RN: I was training for a small wrestler, now I get huge jiu jitsu guy, so now it just a bigger challenge. I have been going at twice as hard as before to counter his sizes.

C.H.O: Once the bell rings, where do you see this fight going?

RN: I see the fight going as usual a little stand up, little ground, then back up, then back down then. It is hard to say just play to my strengths and his weaknesses.

C.H.O: After this fight, how many fights do you have left on your IFL contract?

RN: After this one I have 1 fight left, but I can always fight outside the IFL for the Top ten guys in the HWY division.

C.H.O: What are your future plans in MMA?

RN: My future in mma is to win, win, and win. Become #1 in the world.

C.H.O:Where can the fans find out more information about you?

RN: If fans would like some awesome shirts or information they should go to www.roynelson.com, www.bigcountry.tv and my sponsor superaction.com the best Martial Arts Clothing in the industry for real martial artists.
