UFC 84 Payout
MMA News

Here is the payout from the last UFC. As you can see, unless you win the fight you don't make that much money(expect Tito). Look at Keith Jardine. He has to pay for his agent, his insurance and his dues to the team he works with. After collecting his 10,000 dollars he probably only took 5,000 after taxes and other fee's.

UFC 84 FIGHTER SALARIES:

BJ Penn ($250,000) def. Sean Sherk ($35,000)

Wanderlei Silva (150,000) def. Keith Jardine ($10,000)

Goran Reljic ($6,000) def. Wilson Gouveia ($18,000)

Lyoto Machida ($100,000) def. Tito Ortiz ($210,000)

Thiago Silva ($50,000) def. Antonio Mendes ($4,000)

Rousimar Palhares ($10,000) def. Ivan Salaverry ($20,000)

Rameau Sokoudjou ($80,000) def. Kazuhiro Nakamura ($20,000)

Rich Clementi ($40,000) def. Terry Etim ($10,000)

Yoshiyuki Yoshida ($12,000) def. Jon Koppenhaver ($8,000)

Dong Hyun Kim ($40,000) def. Jason Tan ($3,000)

Shane Carwin ($12,000) def. Christian Wellisch ($10,000)

Note: Official salaries do not include looker room bonuses, sponsorship monies or any commission fees.

That shocks me that Sherk, even though he lost, made less money in the Main-Event title fight than 2 lower card fighters (Clementi and Kim).

I cant believe these guys make a living fighting every 3 months earning sometimes only $5,000. Think about it, if they fight 4 times a year, and earn $10,000 and a few $5,000 thats only like $30,000 a year. Not exactly a luxury job there. For the amount of time, work, and effort needed to be a MMA fighter, I think these guys should be getting paid alot more than they are, even for a losing effort. I mean, its not like they have a retirement to fall back on either. So they should be getting as much money as they can while they can.

Dont get me wrong tho, I mean the crappy fighters can scrape by off bottom feedings for all I care. Im talking about the really good fighters. Because obviously they put forth more time and effort and work into their success. So they should be rewarded no matter what the outcome is. Its not like these guys are fighting for the money anyway, they love to fight. Otherwise they wouldnt be any good at it. If they were in it for the money, they would sign a big contract and fight like TITO!

I think some of these payouts are deserving, and i have no problem with the winner making more money than the loser. But some of these payouts are pretty shitty.
