Great Online Jiu Jitsu Instructionals
Instructionals

As our regular readers know, we are always on the look-out for cool things related to MMA, Jiu Jitsu, grappling etc. Recently I checked out a BJJ instructional site called Jiu-Jitsu.net. The site is run by Gene Simco, a black belt under Marcelo Nigue. As far as I know this is the largest and longest running Jiu Jitsu instructional site on the internet.

There are really three reasons I like this site so much. The first is the sheer amount of techniques shown. There are many instructional sites out there that you can visit for an hour or two and run through their entire library of techniques. That's not the case with Simco's site. There are hundreds and hundreds of techniques on the site. You don't have to worry about running out of material either (Simco adds another 3 or 4 techinques once or twice a week).

The second reason I like Jiu-Jitsu.net is the way Simco includes little details when he teaches a technique. As an example, I am sure most of you are familiar the guillotine defense of throwing your arm over your opponents shoulder. Simco points out that if you use that defense while in some else's guard, you can cause your opponent quite a bit of pain simply by making a fist with your hand that is on their back. That way, the harder they pull the guillotine, the more pain they are causing for themselves. This is just one example of minor details that can really make a difference.

The third reason I liked the site so much is because of the way the techniques are organized. I can't tell you how many instructional sites I have gone to that only have a random list of instructionals. It's almost impossible to find a move your looking for. At Simco's site you can look up techniques alphabetically and from the position (i.e. Top Attacks, Guard Techniques, Escapes, etc). I have been having a little trouble sweeping one of the guys at my gym so I looked up different sweeps from the guard and found some new techniques. It really is that easy.

Ok, so what's the bad news? Well, it costs $6.95 per week, but considering most MMA and BJJ schools charge between $75 and $150 a month, the price seems pretty fair. For the amount of information, it's also much cheaper than instructional DVDs. I know, you're saying to yourself "But I can get free instructionals form other sites." True, even ChokeHimOut.com has one or two instructionals each week. But, at Jiu-Jitsu.net your not getting random instructionals here and there, it's a library of Jiu Jitsu techniques organized and available anytime you want.

The best part of this whole thing is that you don't have to believe what I'm saying is true, you can check it out for yourselves. When you go to Jiu-Jitsu.net you'll get a free trial week. If you don't like it as much as I do, don't subscribe. Even if you don't subscribe, you can still watch hundreds of instructionals for free for a week. Check it out, I think you'll like it.

[As a side note, before you guys start thinking I've sold out to "the man" by promoting Ji-Jitsu.net, you should know that ChokeHimOut.com and I have no financial stake in Jiu-Jitsu.net. Whether they sell 1 subscription or 1 million subscriptions we get $0. The reason I wrote this article is because I think they offer a great service and wanted to tell our visitors about it. You may notice their banner ad on this page and others. After we checked out their site, we were so impressed we contacted them and offered to do a banner exchange (again, nobody's being paid). The fact is, they have a great site and I hope you all check it out.]

Below is a promo video for the online training.
