As promised, here are the results from last nights IFL: New Blood New Battles that ChokeHimOut.com was in attendence for. CHO's Derrick Richardson did the reporting and I did the photographs(sorry). CHO has been invited to the IFL event on May 16th at the Mohegan Sun and we look forward to it. Here's last night pictures and play by play action...
Light Heavyweight bout Alex Schoenauer (12-9) vs. Brendan Barrett (3-2)
1st round: Both fighters come out and exchange punches and jabs, and Barrett gets a takedown putting Schoenauer into the corner. Schoenauer attempts a guillotine that is unsuccessful. Schoenauer begins to work to his feet and immediately looks to secure an arm. Barrett shakes off the attempt as both men are back standing looking to strike. Barrett gets the better of a short exchange landing a nice combination that rocks Schoenauer who immediately clinches with Barrett and jumps guard taking it back to the ground. From guard Schoenauer is able to reverse and get top position and fails twice on heel hook attemtps before the round ends. CHO scores it 10-9 for Barrett.
2nd round: Both men come out swinging again to start the 2nd round. Barrett again lands some good shots that slow Schoenauer who clinches once again. Barrett works hard in the clinch throwing knees and punches but Schoenauer fights back and the two separate and move back to the center of the ring. Barrett has his mouth wide open and looks very tired while Schoenauer moves cautiously throwing short punches and jabs as Barrett flails wildly. Barrett misses badly with a wild combination and falls to his back where Schoenauer takes immediate side control. Schoenauer works short punches and elbows and the round comes to an end, and Barrett looks very weary heading back to his corner. CHO says this one is 10-9 Schoenauer
3rd Round: Barrett is completely gassed as the rounds starts but he is still swinging for the fences looking for the knockout. Schoenauer still playing it safe keeping his distance, he is looking fresher than Barrett but isn't looking to engage. Schoenauer puts together some nice punches and opens up Barrett near his left eye. Barrett clinches Schoenauer into the corner put does no damage from there while Schoenauer stays busy with knees. The ref breaks the two and Schoenauer land some more punches before Barrett gets a weak takedown and falls right into a guillotine attempt by Schoenauer. This one looks tight and Barrett is gassed but he manages to get his head free just before the round ends. CHO says 10-9 Schoenauer.
Official decision: Schoenauer wins by split decision 29-28, 28-29, 29-28
Featherweight Bout Rafael Dias (10-3-1) vs. LC Davis (9-1)
Round 1
Dias gets an early takedown to start the round. He looks to pass as he is stuck in the half guard of Davis. Dias keeps top position but is doing little damage as Davis looks to hold on. Davis works to full guard and the ref stands the fighters back up due to the inactivity. The fighters exchange some punches and Dias again looks to take this fight to the ground, but Davis is able to stuff it and in turn puts Dias on his back. Dias works for a guillotine but Davis defends well, he escapes and is able to reign down punches until the 1st round ends. Tough round to score, but CHO calls it 10-9 Davis
Round 2
The two come out throwing leather as round 2 begins. Davis lands some punches that back Dias into the ropes. The two clinch briefly and then separate and return to the center of the ring. Dias looks to take the fight to the mat again but Davis is able to shrug off the attempts. Davis takes the fight to the ground off a stuffed Dias takedown attempt. Davis is unable to get any offense going from the top position and the ref steps in rather quickly and stands the fighters back up. Dias makes another attempt at a takedown and Davis once again stops it and puts Dias down although he still is unable to mount any offense. Not a great round for either fighter, but Dias does little to no damage, so Davis takes it 10-9
round 3
Davis comes out swinging and lands some nice punches. Dias looks again to take the fight to the ground but is unable, and ends up on his back once again. Davis looks awkward again from the top and doing no damage to Dias from there. The fight is stood once again and the fighters exchange and Dias throws some nice kicks that are blocked by Davis. Dias is finally able to get a takedown and ends up in half guard. He is then able to pass to side control but Davis is defending nicely from there. Davis works back to full guard and Dias is unable to mount any offense himself from the top, and the ref steps in to stand them up. With 4 seconds left in the fight, Davis throws a left kick which catches Dias square on the head as he was looking to shoot for the takedown. Dias is out cold with his eyes rolling back into his head. He lays motionless for several minutes before he is taken out on a stretcher.
LC Davis wins via KO at 3:56 of round 3
Lightweight bout Chris Horodecki (11-1) vs. Nate Lamotte (6-2)
round 1
Both fighters come out and spend a lot of time feeling each other out throwing jabs from a distance. Horodecki lands a jab and Lamotte clinches with Horodecki as the fighters end up in the corner where Lamotte is looking to take Horodecki down. Horodecki is able to break free from the clinch and the fighters end up in the center of the ring. Horodecki looks to throw some kicks and lands a few loud leg kicks. The two finish the round exchanging punches and kicks with Horodecki getting the better of the exchanges. CHO sees it 10-9 Horodecki
round 2
Horodecki comes out punching and sticks Lamotte with a left hand. The fighters clinch once again. Lamotte is able to control Horodecki's right arm while he lands some nice knees from the clinch before Horodecki again breaks free. Lamotte scores the 1st takedown and ends up in full guard on top of Horodecki. From inside Horodecki's guard Lamotte reigns down strikes and Horodecki looks like he's in some big trouble. He is able to kick Lamotte away and get back to his feet. Horodecki looks to get some revenge and starts to pour it on Lamotte landing nice punches and low kicks that have Lamotte backing away all over the ring. Horodecki steals the round 10-9 with the flurry that finishes the round.
round 3
Lamotte comes out and looks to strike. He throws a big spinning back fist and barely misses. Horodecki answers with a spinning back kick that is blocked by Lamotte. Horodecki then begins landing one leg kick after another and Lamotte looks frustrated. Lamotte then gets a nice takedown and punishes Horodecki from full guard. CHO gives this one to Lamotte 10-9.
official decision: Chris Horodecki via unanimous decision 29-28 on all score cards
Lightweight bout Jim Miller (10-1) vs. Bart Palaszewski (28-10)
round 1
The fighters come out and exchange some punches, Miller keeping his distanace looking to set up the shot. He scores a single leg takedown directly into the half guard of Palaszewski. Miller is able to secure an anaconda choke that looks to be very deep, however Palaszewski is hanging in there. Palaszewski is able to get to his knees and then to his feet and works free from the choke drawing a nice applaus from the crowd. Miller gets another takedown and again lands in half guard where he reigns down punches as the round ends. Easy 10-9 round for Miller.
round 2
Palaszewski comes out throwing punches and looking to score early. He lands some nice punches and Miller shoots for a takedown. Palaszewski is able to sprawl but Miller continues to work the single let and gets yet another takedown and works from half guard again. Miller is able to secure another anaconda choke and this one looks deep as well. Palaszewski gets himself free once again and in the scramble Palaszewski ends up on top throwing punches. Palaszewski then backs out of full guard and they again trade punches. Palaszewski then shoots for his own takedown but Miller stuffs it and turns it into a takedown of his own. The round ends and its a 10-9 for Miller.
round 3
Palaszewski comes out yet again throwing punches and Miller looks to shoot for the takedown. Palaszewski grabs an arm and is looking for a kimura, but Miller scrambles and in doing so takes Palaszewski's back and has both hooks sunk in. Milller looks to secure the choke but Palaszewski is doing a nice job hand fighting and staying alive. Miller then sinks the choke in deep but Palaszewski is able to pull down on Miller's arm and stay alive, once again drawing a nice applaus from the crowd. the fighters stand and Palaszewski throws strikes trying for a quick KO, but the round ends and Miller takes it 10-9.
official decision: Jim Miller wins via unanimous decision 30-27 on all cards
Welterweight Bout Brad Blackburn (11-9-1) vs. Delson Heleno (13-4)
round 1
Blackburn lands a leg kick as both fighters come out striking to start the round. Heleno looks to score a takedown and does winding up in Blackburn's halfguard. From there Heleno works to pass to side control but Blackburn defends and eventually gets back to his feet. Heleno immediately takes Blackburn back to the ground. He works some hammer fists and punches and gets side control. Heleno works for a kimura but Blackburn again defends. Heleno stands up and throws a downward crowd pleasing superman punch and two more big punches as the round comes to an end, nice round for Heleno 10-9.
round 2
both fighters come out swinging and missing before Heleno secures another takedown. He starts banging away at Blackburn with ground and pound from the half guard. Heleno works and gets full mount reigning punches, but Blackburn is able to get back to full guard without sustaining much damage. Heleno begins to throw punches in Blackburn's full guard but misses badly on a wild punch that Blackburn turns into a guillotine attempt. Heleno escapes and ends up in full mount as the round ends. this one goes to Heleno again 10-9.
round 3
Blackburn looks stiff as he comes out and Heleno looks for another takedown that is stuffed by Blackburn. Blackburn is keeping his distance trying to avoid being taken down again. The two trade punches but nothing serious lands for either fighter. Heleno ducks his head and looks to shoot but Blackburn catches him with an uppercut on the way in and follows with a huge right hook to Heleno's temple that puts him out cold against the ropes. Great comeback victory for Blackburn.
Brad Blackburn wins via KO at 1:50 of the 3rd round
LightHeavyweight title bout Champion Vladimir Matyushenko (20-3) vs. Jamal Patterson (4-1)
round 1
Patterson comes right out and connects with a right hand that sends the champion stumbling backwards. Patterson tries to move in but Vlad clinches and holds on with overhooks as he recovers from the big punch. The ref steps in an breaks the two apart and they start again in the center of the ring. Vlad throws a kick but Patterson catches the leg and hold on with his left hand while pummeling Vlad with punch after punch with his right. Vlad gets his leg free and clinches, but Patterson is still landing nice punches. Vlad then lands a kick and then shoots, but Patterson sinks in a deep guillotine. Vlad is able to escape and throws punches from full guard as the round ends. This one goes to Patterson 10-9
round 2
Both fighters come out throwing big bombs. Vlad shoots once again and Patterson looks for another guillotine, but this one isn't even close, Patterson looks like he is gassing. Vlad moves to half guard and holds Patterson down with one arm while he blasts him with punches with the other. Vlad lands punch after punch and looks content with punishing Patterson from this position. Vlad continues his onslaught as Patterson appears to be withering. After several shots to the head and body Patterson rolls and is unable to defend himself any further, the ref steps in and stops the fight.

Featherweight title bout Champion Wagnney Fabiano (9-1) vs. Shad Lierley (2-1)
This one doesn't last long. Fabiano comes and and lands a nice right hand followed by a low kick that knocks Lierley off of his feet and to the mat. Lierley gets right back up and looks to strike. Fabiano moves in and lands a vicious left right combination that knocks Lierley out cold at the 0:37 mark of the 1st round

Welterweight title bout Champion Jay Hieron (14-4) vs. Mark Miller (8-2)
Another title bout that doesn't last long at all. Hieron comes right out and lands a right hand and shoots for the takedown and lands in Miller's full guard. From there Hieron lands punch after punch as Miller can do nothing but move around to try and delay a stoppage. Hieron postures up and lands some big punches that Miller can't defend, the ref has seen enough and steps in to stop this one.

Welterweight bout Emyr Bussade (10-5) vs. Jesse Lennox (6-0)
round 1
Lennox lands a nice shot to start things out and they clinch in the corner. From there he lands a nice knee to the body. Bussade jumps guard and looks for a leg lock but fails at the attempt. They start to trade and are back into the clinch quickly. Emyr tries to pull guard but falls on his back and Lennox starts to drop some punches. Bussade looks to secure the leg again but is again unsuccessful. They are back to their feet where Lennox tees off with a barrage of punches. They finish the round in the clinch, a 10-9 round for Lennox.
round 2
Lennox starts off with some punches and a nice body shot. Lennox lets his hands fly in the corner with punches but Bussade fights back. They start to unload again and they clinch. Lennox ends up on top on the ground. Bussade sinks in a beautiful knee bar and Lennox screams out in pain as he falls to the mat. He never actually taps, but the ref steps in and stops it at 1:25 of the 1st round.
Emyr Bussade wins via submission (knee bar) at 1:25 of the 2nd round
Lightheavyweight bout Carmelo Marrero (7-2) vs. Mike Ciesnolevicz (13-3)
round 1
Mike misses with a head kick right out of the gate and Carmelo takes down Mike into half guard. Carmelo is bleeding heavily and Mike is covered with his blood. Marrero looks for the guillotine but Mike is able to survive and Carmelo remains in half guard. The ref stops the fight and has the doctor check the cut on top of Marrero's head. After checking the cut the doctor decides it is too severe for Marrero to continue. Marrero is very unhappy and disputes the decision while Mike looks discontent as well. It is announced as a win for Ciesnolevicz at first and then immediately corrected and ruled a no contest at the 1:37 mark of the 1st round
